New Media Arts Inc. is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to developing the arts online and in virtual worlds. We have two current projects. The Antique Pattern Library provides scans of needlework books that are in the public domain, keeping these books available to all. Avatar Repertory Theater is pushing the boundaries of the venerable tradition of theater, bringing it forward into 3D virtual worlds. Another project, currently on the back burner, is AnonLiterary Magazine, publishing poetry and fiction by residents of the virtual world Second Life™.

Avatar Repertory Theater

Our fine actors, graphics designers, writers, musicians, sound and tech engineers are on the bleeding edge of live virtual theater. We perform live, stream onto the internet, and produce machinima recordings.

The Virtual Short Play Buffet has opened to a very warm reception from the audience. Performances on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (GMT-8) run through to July 24th.

If you love theater, good stories, good writing, and excellent performances – this is a must see. Do not wait. Do not delay. Put the reminder in your pda, your Outlook, whatever will beep annoyingly at you and remind you to “GO! GO NOW! — SL Enquirer July 10, 2011

Recently, we presented Oedipus Rex live in Second Life™ (October 2010), and brought it back for an encore in January 2011. Both runs met with considerable critical success.

Based on translations of the original Greek tragedy, the play follows the king's disastrous investigation into the murder of his predecessor, and his consequent fall from the throne to utter disgrace.

The Antique Pattern Library

This ongoing project is an effort to scan needlework pattern books that are in the public domain, to preserve them, so we can keep our needlework heritage in our hands. These scans have been photo edited to make them more useful for needle workers, and to reduce file sizes. They are available, for free, to anyone who wants them, for educational, personal, artistic and other creative uses, under Creative Commons licensing.
