2024-03-01 New Publications: Crochet chair sets, embroidery, rug making, and a Workbasket

Metaverse Libraries is situated in Canada and registered as a non-profit there. Registration as a charity is in progress. Since the Metaverse Libraries site is not yet fully installed, New Media Arts Inc., has graciously allowed us to publish the Antique Pattern Library new publication posts on this site, for the time being.

M-SH003 W. Jones & Co – Rug Making
Small stapled 12 page booklet, covers included. One page (6) of actual instruction, all others about how to order wool, special offer packages, testimonies of customers, offers of employment and other advertising content. No publication date or mention of copyright, but customers are referred to as ladies which indicates an early 20thC date at the latest. Also an inlaid leaflet, blank on one side, showing a knotted rug

L-II011 Bruno Börner – Rose border
Handpainted Berlin woolwork pattern on grey cardboard. The repeat is shorter than the actual pattern; only one repeat has been charted. The pattern has been clipped but the maker is known as Bruno Börner in Berlin. The pattern number is not known.

Folded strip of paper, 8 pages. Crochet: “King’s Crown” medallion, handkerchief edgings, “Ripple Stripe” crocheted rug. Knitting: versatile sweater. Tatting: Good Luck tatted star. More crochet: Chair Set, Wheel of Fortune Medaillion.

Partially cut-off printed pattern on cream paper in dark green ink. Filet chart of a chair seat with a flower bouquet surrounded by a floral border. Dated January ???

G-KR0013 Clark’s and J&P Coats O.N.T. Book No. 223 – Chair Sets
Stapled softcover booklet, 16 pages, dated 1945. Thirteen crocheted chair sets, and one that is knitted.

F-IS036 Heinrich Kuehn 14459 – Two corner designs
Handpainted Berlin woolwork pattern on cream cardboard. Publisher is not mentioned, but the prize medals at the top belong to Heinrich Kuehn in Berlin. The pattern shows two corner designs with geometrical elements and small pink and red flowers.

E-WM009 Peterson’s Magazine – Travelling Satchels
A torn-out page, one from several from Peterson’s Magazine though this is not mentioned on the page itself. Two patterns for embroidery or woolwork, in three colors. One has an all-over repeating pattern with an edge design for the flap, and the other has a shield with an initial in the middle, and a border on three sides.

Small brown leporello with three cross-stitch alphabets, one on a single page, the second on three pages, the third on four pages. Intricate designs mostly for decorative purposes.

If you would like to help the Antique Pattern Library, introducing the Library to people who don’t know of it yet, is very useful, since it broadens our user base and therefore also our future donor base. Blogs, tiktok, instagram, pinterest, ravelry, facebook, other social media – show others your favorite publications and what you made using them. Our work is only useful when people actually use it!
